Lapithos ist ein eisenzeitliches Königreich an der Nordküste Zyperns. Assyrische Inschriften aus der Zeit von Sargon II. nennen es als eines elf Königreiche von Ia' (Zypern) in der Provinz von Iadnan(n)a.

In persischer Zeit siedelten sich Phönizier an. Der letzte König von Lapithos, Praxippos, wurde 312 v. Chr. durch Ptolemaios I. von Ägypten unterworfen.

Nach Strabo wurde Lapithos dagegen von Siedlern aus Sparta begründet. Der heutige Name der Stadt ist Lapta.
